Barker Aquatic Swim Club (BAQU) aims to provide opportunities at all levels of swimming. BAQU focuses on providing a family based environment where swimmers can take the first steps in competitive swimming in a inspiring and supportive environment. Swimmers can then become involved in inter-club competitions if they desire.
The Swim Club is a registered affiliated Club with Swimming NSW, the governing body for swimming in NSW. We are a member club of the Swimming Metro North West area. The objective of the club as noted in its constitution is to promote, teach and encourage swimming under the name of Barker Aquatic Swim Club Incorporated. The club exists to enable its swimming members to enjoy their sport and achieve their best. The non-swimming members, primarily parents, focus on ensuring that the club fulfils its role on behalf of swimmers and their families. This is a very satisfying activity and all parents are encouraged to become as involved as their other commitments will allow.
The main activities that the club supports are:
- Club Nights on selected Friday night through all school terms.
- Club attended inter-club swimming carnivals. Many swimmers of all levels attend several carnivals each year.
- Club representation at major NSW and Australian Swimming events for squad members who achieve qualifying times.
- Other community and social activities as arranged by the club and/or the coaching staff.
ORGANISATION
To support club activities the Club Committee and other parent volunteers provide:
- Management of registration of swimmers and the club with Swimming NSW
- Management of results and times from external and internal events
- Management of entries of swimmers in external events
- Technical Official Support for BASC swim meets and zone events
MANAGEMENT OF THE CLUB
The club is managed by the Committee, which consists of the office-bearers of the Club and three (3) or more ordinary members. Officers are elected at the Annual General Meeting, which is usually in August and, unless they are removed or resign, they serve for a 12 month period until the next AGM. A person must be a member of the Club to be eligible to stand for a position on the committee and to vote at the AGM. The Committee meets once a month and all members and supporters are welcome to attend these meetings, although only Committee members vote on motions that are put.
In addition to the office-bearers who make up the Committee, there are a number of other Club positions that need to be filled. These include:
- Assistant Race Secretary
- Assistant Registrar
- Social Convenor
- Technical Convenor
- Merchandise Convenor
- Zone Delegates
Applicants for these positions must also be members of the Club. Nominations for Office Bearers, Committee positions and other club positions can be made to the Club Secretary no later than seven (7) days before the AGM.
